In addition to the wide range of fine Norwegian artists and acts set to perform at the Scene Norway events at London’s Kings Cross venue, several key players are also performing as part of the London Jazz Festival’s official programme.
A stellar international trio featuring Norwegians Arild Andersen and Paolo Vinaccia plus Scot Tommy Smith mark the release of the live ECM recording ‘Life at Belleville’, which draws on Norwegian and Scottish folk music as well as the jazz tradition.
The fruitful Andersen/Smith collaboration began two years ago and has since resulted in a number of tours in Scandinavia as well as the UK. The release is celebrated with a gig at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall; a night not to be missed.
Arild Andersen is the complete acoustic bassist - his massive, burnished sound, faultless groove and unerring phrasing are the hallmarks of this great improviser. Over the years, Andersen has performed and recorded with such heavyweights as Jan Garbarek, Bill Frisell, Stan Getz, Pat Metheny , Don Cherry, John Scofield, Nana Vasconcelos, Ralph Towner and Alphonse Mouzon
Italian-born effervescent Norwegian drummer Paolo Vinaccia has become an essential player on the Scandinavian scene. Over the last two decades this charismatic drummer/percussionist has performed with a majority of Scandinavian Jazz’s premier division players such as Nils Petter Molvær, Bugge Wesseltoft, Terje Rypdal and Palle Mikkelborg
