Composer Bertil Palmar Johansen is a motor in Norwegian classical music. His high level of activity and diverse work has resulted in a plethora of commissions and awards. Not least was he intimately involved with much of the musical manifestations in his home city of Trondheim’s recent millennial celebrations.

Active not only as composer but also as conductor and teacher, Johansen has an especially close relationship to the youth segment of Norwegian classical musicians, and this has inspired a series of works from his hand. Many of them have been special commissions from the league of Norwegian school orchestras, an institution with which Johansen cooperates in supplying the broad foundational musical education with new, exiting repertoire.

This record presents samples of that corpus and it features -it could not be otherwise- Trondheim’s renowned junior soloist ensemble. The orchestra has in its hitherto brief existence won a reputation for excellence also outside Norway. The recording’s main soloist is the talented Sigmund Tvete Vik on violin.
