Kings of Convenience’s ‘I’d rather dance with you’ tops MTV Europe’s list of 2004’s best music videos. The video was made for the Bergen duo’s first single from their second album ‘Riot on an empty street’ released last spring.

The ‘I’d rather dance with you’ video was directed by Bergen producer Geir Hørnes who’s excited with the MTV appraisal: ‘That’s great. There’s been lots of positive things happening for the Bergen production scene last autumn, and this tops it all off.’
The producer met with KoC during filming of a Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation feature and hit off with the duo.

Says Hørnes on Kings of Convenience’s approach to production: ‘They follow a sort of DIY ethic. They employ friends as session musicians when recording their album and as a continuation of that approach they came to us when it was time to shoot a video.’

Says KoC member Erik Glambek Bøe on Hørnes’ working terms: ‘We wanted to give him free hands and not try to control the production of the video. It’s best when there’s not a crowd interfering with the director’s work – he needs to think out the ideas in his own head first’.

Another Bergen act to do well on MTV is Annie and her ‘Chewing Gum’ video with its no. 7 spot on the Best of 2004 list.
