Electronica pioneer Per Martinsen aka Mental Overdrive’s ‘083’ recalls the heyday of the techno scene with its minimalist grooves and early 90s aesthetics. Since his early days at the seminal R&S Records in the late 80s/early 90s Martinsen has been one of the true pioneers and innovators in Norwegian electronic music. Martinsen himself describes the album as an ‘electronic roots’ record – a trip back to days when Kraftwerk, New Order/Joy Division, the Detroit house scene and WARP’s bleep/headphone stuff was the soundtrack of choice. On ‘083’ (which refers to the old directional phone number for Martinsen’s city of birth, Tromsų) Mental Overdrive presents a set of classic and timeless techno/electronica tracks that are both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. Bring out the glow sticks and dance, techno is back!sd
