This week saw the nominees for the 54th Grammy awards being unveiled. True to form, a number of Norwegian producers, companies and performers received nominations for the prestigious award.

Perhaps not surprisingly, NYC-based Norwegian production and songwriting duo Stargate are awarded several Grammy nominations. Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen are nominated in the Rap Field for their work on Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Black And Yellow’ and also for their contributions to Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’.

In addition to these nominations, Rihanna’s album ‘Loud’, to which Hermansen and Eriksen have made significant contributions, is also nominated in the Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal album fields respectively.

The list of nominees also includes other strong Norwegian entries. Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes has been nominated in the category for best classical instrumental solo for his playing on his recording of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concertos Nos 3 & 4. Noted Norwegian sound engineer Arne Akselberg is also nominated in the Production, Classical Field for his work on the same album-

Several times Grammy nominees, record label/sound production company 2L’s audio guru Morten Lindberg takes home yet another nomination in the Best Surround Sound Album field for their work on the album ’Kind’ by Ensemble 96 & Nidaros String Quartet. Conductor Kjetil Almenning has also been nominated for the same release in the Best Choir Performance field.

In the field Best Classical Vocal Solo, singer Marianne Beate Kielland repeats last year’s nomination with another one, this time for her splendid performance on the album ‘Veslem°y Synsk’ which features works by composers Edvard Grieg and Olav Anton Thommessen and lyrics from Norwegian literary classic ‘Haugtussa’ by novelist Arne Garborg.
