For a number of years, Oslo’s vital Ultima Festival has been led by highly respected director Geir Johnson. The veteran director is now set to take a one-year leave and in his place, 33-year old Lars Petter Hagen has been appointed as the festival’s new artistic director.
Hagen, a freelance composer, leaves his position as artistic director of Ny Musikk for Ultima. For the past year, Hagen has also been artistic director of the Nordic Music Days 2009 and for the Happy Days Sound Festival which he started with Trond Reinholdtsen in 2005.
Hagen hails from the town of Ski outside Oslo, and now lives in Oslo where he studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
"With so many different forms of expression, so many excellent musicians and so much energy in today's music scene, these are exciting times in which to lead the Ultima Festival. I really look forward to this interesting and challenging task," says Lars Petter Hagen.
Chairman of Ultima's board of directors Stein Olav Henrichsen says that the board is very pleased to have appointed Hagen: "Lars Petter Hagen has just the kind of experience, expertise and energy we were looking for for this appointment."sd
