Sunday saw NYC-based Norwegian production and songwriting team Stargate taking home their second Grammy Award in two years for their work on Rihanna’s hit ”Only Girl (In The World)".
Stargate were also nominated in the Album of the Year category for their contributions to Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’.
In addition to Stargate’s achievements, Norwegian songwriters Espionage were bestowed with a Grammy in the category Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for the track "Hey, Soul Sister" performed by the band Train. The track was written partly by the Norwegians.
A number of other Norwegian releases were also bestowed with nominations for the prestigious Grammy, but did not take home the coveted award this time:
Best Surround Sound Album: Trondheimsolistene’s ‘In Folk Style’, produced by 2L’s Morten Lindberg,. The same album was also nominated in the Best Small Ensemble Performance.
‘Best Choral Performance’: Freiburger Barockorchester’s recording of Haydn’s ‘The Creation’ with conductor René Jacobs featuring Norwegian baritone Johannes Weisser.
In the same category: mezzosoprano Marianne Beate Kielland is featured as soloist on a recording of Frank Martin’s ‘Golgotha’ featuring conductor Daniel Reuss as well as the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra; Cappella Amsterdam and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber.sd
