This strong quintet has its background from Trondheim’s prestigious jazz conservatory. The Dingobats tunes on Pck are far from academic though. With a strong disregard of genre the spirited collective blasts through up-tempo stuff with such energy they rival most rock bands. Dingobats’ repertoire is however more complex than your average three-chord riffs– saxophonist Eirik Hegdal writes arrangements with rich harmonies and unexpected melodic twists. Dingobats master the difficult skill of dynamic playing – much evident in the album’s more understated and down-tempo numbers. Pck is rich in contrasts, and will reward active listeners with a taste of new and fresh sounds.sd
