This Simax recording sees the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and soprano Ragnhild Heiland Sĝrensen focusing on composer Ludvig Irgens Jensen’s song cycle Japanischer Frühling that was begun in 1919 and completed in 1957. The lyrics of the song cycle are adapted from ancient Japanese poems and deal with stories about nature and life, universal in scope and independent of their country of origin. The poems create a rich basis for songs that are highly colourful, both in terms of conception and detail. Irens-Jensen devoted much focus to the text and composed a rich orchestral palette that is bright and transparent. Japanischer Frühling is a collection of, for many, unfamiliar, well-crafted music which will give lasting pleasure to active listeners with an enquiring ear.sd
