Sverre Eftestøl (1952) comes from Vest-Agder County, Norway. He has a degree in music education, majoring in piano, from Agder Music Conservatory (1975) where he also took supplementary studies (1976) in pedagogy. He studied piano with professor Stanislav Knor (1975-77). In 1982 he earned a post-graduate degree in church music at the same school. Studies in composition at the "Internationale Summer Academy, Mozarteum" with prof. George Crumb, 1992.

During his student years he was a music teacher at Grimstad Upper Secondary School (1972-74), assistant teacher at Agder Music Conservatory (1974-75) and part-time teacher at Kristiansand School of Music (1975-76).

In fall 1977 Eftestøl was employed as music teacher and organist in Kvinesdal. In 1987 he was appointed principal of the municipal school of music in Kvinesdal in addition to being organist at the main church where he was in charge of a mixed choir and girl`s choir.

For two years (1978-80) Eftestøl was employed part time as music teacher at Agder Regional College and Agder Music Conservatory.

In addition to compiling folk music from his own town, Eftestøl has steadily created new musical compositions and improvisational works. He has taken part in many cultural events and given secular and church conserts that have included his own works. Some of his compositions have been broadcast on national radio.

New works by Eftestøl were introduced at the opening of the new cultural center in Kvinesdal (1985) and at the 150th anniversary of the Kvinesdal church (1987). For the "Emigrant`s Festival" in Kvinesdal, 1990, he wrote "The Rivers", a composition for narrator, tape and piano.

In addition, Eftestøl is often used as accompanist at concerts.

In 1985 he received a music grant from Vest-Agder County and won the Kvinesdal Culture Award in 1988. He also won first prize in the Norwegian Choir Association composition contest for 1990.

He has also received a travel scholarship from the Norwegian Performing Rights Society (Tono) several times.
