The ten-piece collective which is well established on the Norwegian market, recently signed a world-wide deal with renowned UK indie label Ninja Tune. Their latest album, The Stix, was released in Norway on Warner earlier this year to wide critical acclaim. The outfit has toured extensively domestically for the last five years, earning the band a solid following. During the last year, Jaga, its management and label have increased the international focus, and this effort now looks set to bear fruit. The collective’s debut album A Livingroom Hush was released world-wide on Norwegian indie Smalltown Supersound early 2002 and has been met with very positive reviews in such publications as NME, The Wire, Muzik and The Face. Ninja Tune has since re-released it, and the effects of the unique Jaga concoction has continued to spread. Concert appearances abroad have been equally applauded, The Fertiliser Festival in particular was very successful.

BBC has taken a liking to the happening Norwegian collective, initially choosing The Livingroom Hush as album of the week in late November. This week saw BBC nominating Jaga’s The The Livingroom Hush in the category Jazz Album of The Year. Alongside such stalwart dignitaries as Wayne Shorter and Keith Jarrett, Jaga are nominated for their acclaimed debut album which was released on Ninja Tune November 25. Jaga Jazzist’s latest album The Stix was released to massive critical acclaim in Norway in September 2001, and is set for world-wide release on Ninja Tune March/April 2003.

Jaga Jazzist is also active on the tour circuit, playing the Trans Musicales in Rennes, France last weekend.

New vinyl releases are also about to be shipped; their Days 12” is now out on Smalltown Supersound/Ninja Tune. The Animal Chin 10”/CD EP is scheduled for release in January 2003 and the accompanying video is seeing rotation on MTV and ZTV these days.
