Prestigious BBC slot for young Norwegian DJ

To be offered a slot at BBC’s Radio One’s The Essential Mix show is an award given to a selected elite of DJs. As the third Scandinavian, and first Norwegian ever, young and respected DJ Nils Noa has been picked out to mix his favourite vinyl on The Essential Mix in April.

Nils Noa

Nils Noa, who hails from the north-western town of Ålesund, started his DJing carreer at the tender age of 13. Since then he has relocated to the club-Mecca of Oslo and has continued to hone his turntable chops. Through hard work and lots of performances at the vibrant Oslo scene, Noa has earned himself resident DJ positions at several of the capital’s hippest clubs.

On April 12 Noa can add another feat to his resume: he has been picked out to represent the thriving Norwegian club-scene at BBC Radio One’s The Essential Mix show. Very few DJs are allowed a slot at this respected radio show, and given Noa’s young age it’s a testament to the DJ’s abilities. Said Noa to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation on being featured at The Essential Mix show: At first I couldn’t believe it. Sometime before Christmas I got word that I was considered for the show, but I didn’t believe it back then – I guess I still haven’t realised it yet.

Noa has also distinguished himself as an excellent compiler/mixer – evident on his 2001 mix-album Intersection. Nils Noa is also responsible for the compilation and mix-work done on the upcoming Beatservice Records compilation Prima Norsk 2. The compilation includes tracks by such excellent electronica/house/club acts as Bermuda Triangle, Kalle, Magnus & Daniel, Trulz & Robin, Bjørn Torske and Kahuun.

This is the second album in a series of compilations that focus solely on Norwegian club-music. Prima Norsk 1 received several rave reviews internationally - just read here what NME said back in 2001.

Prima Norsk 2 is scheduled for international release on April 14.
