Manger Musikklag: Graffitti - Verker av Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen, Ketil Hvoslef, Jostein Stalheim, Marcus Paus, Kaare Dyvik Husby, Knut Vaage

MIC’s Listen to Norway profile series continues with Manger Musikklag’s "Graffitti" album.

Manger Musikklag: Graffitti - Verker av Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen, Ketil Hvoslef, Jostein Stalheim, Marcus Paus, Kaare Dyvik Husby, Knut Vaage - cover

This is a truly unique recording – new Norwegian contemporary music composed specifically for brass band is not an everyday occurrence. On Graffitti, Manger Musikklag under the leadership of conductor Bjørn Sagstad presents fluent and energetic interpretations of works by Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen, Ketil Hvoslef, Jostein Stalheim, Marcus Paus, Kaare Dyvik Husby and Knut Vaage. The compositions are challenging both rhythmically as well as harmonically and the dynamics are difficult to master. Still, Manger Musikklag displays solid craftsmanship and delivers a strong performance and a wholesome album. The close interaction with the composers creates a symbiosis that results in an album that serves as important documentation of contemporary Norwegian brass band music.
