Tord Gustavsen Trio: (cover) Changing Places

One hour of pure sensuality is what to expect from Changing Places. The trio’s ECM debut is lyrical, tender, and fresh, even with a hint of blues. The 13 songs are composed by Gustavsen and are an wide open invitation to slow listening. Anyone who thinks improvisation is unavailable and unapproachable will be proved wrong by Gustavsen. The experienced pianist has played with some of Norway’s finest singers; Silje Nergaard, Kristin Asbjørnsen, and Live Maria Roggen. Joining him are equally qualified Harald Johnsen (double-bass) and Jarle Vespestad (drums), all three of them sought-after instrumentalists on the continent. Together, they create a unity where the nerve never disappears. To be produced by Manfred Eicher and distributed through ECM’s global network is nothing less than a giant step into the world’s jazz elite for the Norwegian trio.
