Hanne Hukkelberg: Little things

MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Hanne Hukkelberg's strong debut album "Little things"

Hanne Hukkelberg

On her debut album, Hanne Hukkelberg managed to achieve what many strive for; to define and develop a unique and personal form of expression. From bicycle spokes to banjos, wineglasses to wash brooms, and accordions to wurlitzers, there seems to be no limit as to what she might bring to the studio. The result is surprisingly beautiful, musical and fun! “Little things” is a result of differing genres and musicians meeting under the creative guidance of Hukkelberg, with an end-result that can only be described as integral and one-of-a-kind. Drawing on influences from genres such as electronica, left-field rock, improv and traditional song-writing, Hanne Hukkelberg and her companions create quirky, left-field tunes that are as charming as they are multi-faceted. There are multiple aspects within the sonic collages on display, bearing witness of a strong sense of aesthetics and style as well as a strong ambition to bring across a wide range of emotions.

Lately, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction picked up “Ease” from Hanne Hukkelberg’s “Little things” album awarding it airplay and very positive remarks.

Time Out London's Sharon O'Connell visited this year’s by:Larm in Bergen and was very pleased with Hanne Hukkelberg’s performance during the music industry/showcase convention: “…I saw some great bands at the festival. Everyone was really warm and welcoming and I really enjoyed the music I saw, most notably the fabulous Hanne Hukkelberg,” the enthusiastic journalist concluded post-by:Larm.

Live appearances are planned for the UK this autumn.
