Celebrated Norwegian soprano at the BBC proms
Solveig Kringelborn, one of Scandinavia’s most central sopranos is set to perform at the BBC Proms in London with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Celebrated soprano Solveig Kringelborn will perform alongside the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under the leadership of Esa-Pekka Salonen at the BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall on Friday 9 September. Trumpet player Håkan Hardenberger is the other soloist, and the two will perform renditions of Debussy’s La Mer, Mark-Anthony Turnage’s From the Wreckage, Sibelius’ Luonnotar and Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloë Suites I and II.
One of the most celebrated sopranos to emerge from Scandinavia in recent times Solveig Kringelborn has become one of the most sought after opera and concert performers. This is largely due to the combination of her silvery toned voice and charming stage presence. On the concert platform she is particularly famed for her interpretation of Scandinavian music, whilst on the operatic stage she regularly receives acclaim not only for her singing but for her powerful acting ability. She regularly works with conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle, Herbert Blomstedt, Neeme Järvi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Claudio Abbado, Sir Neville Marriner and Sir Colin Davis. Her appearances include the San Francisco Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Liceu in Barcelona, Covent Garden, numerous performances at the Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and Glyndebourne festivals and with orchestras such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Israel Philharmonic.
She has made many recordings and is particularly known for her interpretation of the works of Norwegian and Finnish composers. Future engagements include Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Zurich Opera, Capriccio at the Opéra National de Paris, Marenka/The Bartered Bride at the Glyndebourne Festival and the role of Refka in Kaija Saariaho's new opera Adriana Mater at the Opéra National de Paris. The BBC Proms runs from 15 July to 10 September and is an annual music festival comprising over seventy Prom concerts. A Prom means a promenade concert, or a concert where part of the audience stands in a "promenade" area of the hall. Most concerts at this festival take place at the Royal Albert Hall, London – the venue has 1,000 standing places available at each Prom and the traditionally low prices allow the audience to enjoy world-class concerts for just £4.
