US tour for Sinikka Langeland

Norwegian folk singer Sinikka Langeland, born in the deepest woods of eastern Norway, has finally released her first US album and September sees her touring the US with a solid backing band.

Langeland’s has the sounding name of both heaven and earth: Starflower. Even though it is her first album released her in the US, Sinikka Langeland is by no means new to the game. The Finnish-Norwegian folk singer and kantele has been on the Norwegian music scene for several decades. In her early years, Langeland travelled around with the folk band “the Little Black Moose” and played in places like Kongsvinger Festival, in the east of Norway. During the years, the singer has explored different types of music genres, and today she has a unique music style. Her music has a twist of both jazz, polskas, folk music and Arab music. Nobody can better describe her music than Langeland herself:

"[My music] has always been about searching. I love folksong but I`m not exclusively a traditional folk singer."

“Searching” certainly describes her new album. It is not very often you can hear jazz renderings of the poems of a Norwegian poet (Hans Børli) with a finnish table harp known as Kantele. This you can hear on Langeland`s album.

The American audience will now have the oppurtunity to hear Langeland`s music live. Following the US release of “Starflowers”, the folk singer and kantele player will travel around in the US holding a total of five conserts. The first will take place in Washington DC the 27 of September, and the last will take place at Scandinavia House in New York the 4th of October. The live conserts include trio concerts with (highly respected Swedish double bassist) Anders Jormin and Markku Ounaskari (a well known drummer on the Finnish jazz scene).
