Ten blue years

Tonight Oslo’s renowned club venue Blå (blue) starts the celebration of its ten-year anniversary.

Blå has beyond doubt been the most important venue for jazz and independent music in Norway during the years of its existence. Upon its opening it soon came to manifest a renewed excitement about Norwegian music, the genres in question and also about Oslo as a happening city.

The story started back in February of 1998, when the two founders, Kjell Einar Karlsen and Martin Revheim were strolling along Akerselva (the city’s river/brook). They found the old keep –for the locale was formerly used for the storage of diamonds and gold – and immediately saw what a great place it could become for music.

Although its stature has been fading a little over the past few years, Blå is still a club of special atmosphere and renown. And there is little doubt that it will re-emerge in its former glory, for the spirit of Blå lives, and so many people have been nurtured by it.
