Fresh off from a very convincing appearance at Oslo’s Folkelarm showcasing event, vital folk music outfit Hekla Stålstrenga embarks on a tour of Ireland in October.

Fiddler Ranghild Furebotten and guitarist Tore Bruvoll rank among Norway’s foremost folk performers and have a string of applauded releases with such ensembles as Bruvoll/Halvorsen, Ragnhild Furebotten Trio and Majorstuen to their credit. Having worked together for more than 15 years, the two have developed a strong and coherent musical signature that has a loyal and steadfast following in Norway. North-Norwegian folk music is the focal point of the duo’s compositions which feature both vocal as well as instrumental renditions of traditional tunes from the country’s Arctic region. Furebotten and Bruvoll’s ability to fuse contemporary influences with a strong music tradition and perform the resulting mix with vitality and solid doses of strong Northern charisma and humour has ensured the duo success both within the ranks of the folk music community as well as with the general public. Their 2008 album ‘Hekla Stålstrenga’ (Crocheted Steel Strings) received a nomination to the Spellemannspris Award – the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy.
