Strong Norwegian presence at the London Jazz Festival

Following last year’s massive ‘Scene Norway’ focus at the London Jazz Festival, this year’s edition also boasts a strong contingent of Norwegian performers including names such as Tord Gustavsen, Frøy Aagre and Karin Krog.

The jazz singer Karin Krog will perform a duet with her long-term collaborator, John Surman, in a concert to celebrate Surman’s 65th birthday. Karin Krog is one of Norway’s leading jazz singers and enjoys great international reputation.

The jazz pianist, composer and improviser Helge Lien will perform with his Helge Lien Trio 20 November. The band released their acclaimed album Hello Troll last year.

The Norwegian jazz pianist Tord Gustavsen will perform with his quartet at the Southbank Centre. The band will play songs from their recent album “Restored, Returned” which has received positive response both in Norway and abroad. Gustavsen will make a UK tour in October, for details click here.

Jazz trumpeter Arne Hiorth, a musician, composer, producer and project coordinator, plays a melange of melodic and swinging jazz in the manner of Art Farmer and Stan Getz and will perform at the Spice of Life 22 November. Flugelhorn player Hiorth has worked with likes of Mari Boine, Bjorn Eidsvag, Anja Garbarek and the Oslo Groove Company through straight-ahead and ambient nu-jazz.

Frøy Aagre is back at London Jazz Festival after the success last year. An acclaimed jazz saxophonist, Aagre will certainly move listeners with her compositions. The audience will hear pieces from her newly released album “Countryside”. Aagre will perform four concerts in the UK, for details click here.
