Folk Alliance runs from February 6 – 9 and is regarded as one of the most important forums for ethnic, folk, world and crossover music. The programme contains conferences, tradeshows, workshops as well as showcases and gathers participants from all over the world.
The Norwegian Traditional Music Agency is instrumental in the Norwegian participation to Folk Alliance as the organisation co-ordinates showcases with the duo Tore Bruvoll and Jon Anders Halvorsen as well as the Norwegian presence at the joint Nordic stand.
Bruvoll/Halvorsen have been subjected to increasing international attention over the last year after acclaimed performances at several festivals. Interest has picked up noticeably in Germany where the duo has been offered a record deal and touring opportunities. UK has also showed keen interest in Bruvoll/Halvorsen: on January 21. Halvorsen visited Fiona Talkington’s Late Junction at BBC 3 to present upcoming material from the duo.
Prior to Folk Alliance Bruvoll/Halvorsen will perform as the main act at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium-stage in Washington on February 4, and the event is set for a real-time web-cast. After this concert follows performances during the Nordic Nights sessions at the Folk Alliance Conference February 6-8. The other Nordic acts at the Nordic Nights sessions are Phønix from Denmark and Bazar Blå from Sweden.
Nordic Nights is co-ordinated by The Danish Folk Council, The Swedish Concert Institute and the Norwegian Traditional Music Agency. The Nordic countries will be present with a joint stand at the Folk Alliance Concference’s tradeshow.
