Phonogram sales continues to drop on the domestic market – down almost 30% compared to last year.

The negative trend on the Norwegian phonogram market continues its downward spiral. The latest sales figures from the Association of Norwegian Record Distributors show that sales of soundcarriers (phonograms and digital downloads) dropped by 5% in volume compared with April 2005. Sales of phonograms were down 29% in volume and 29% in value in April.

Sales of singles were down 39% in volume and 53% in value compared with April 2005.

So far in 2005, 27m albums, 91 000 singles and 107 000 Music DVDs were shifted, resulting in a turnover of NOK 171m ($/€). Compared to the same time frame last year, this represents a decline of 7% in volume and 13% in value in sales of phonograms (physical entities). So far this year, download services have reported sales amounting to a value of 6,5m ($/€).
