The Core, currently one of the most explosive live acts on the Norwegian jazz circuit, kick off their tour in Brooklyn on September 11. From New York, the band travel to Baltimore and Washington DC, before rounding up their round trip at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California on September 16.
The Core, led by award-winning sax player, Kjetil Møster, is known for its upbeat and energetic music and is rooted in the acoustic modal jazz of the 1960s. Having played at all the big festivals in Norway, the band is now all set to commence their one-week marathon tour in US, starting in Brooklyn, NY.
Møster, the winner of the 2006 IJFO Annual International Award for New Talent, is joined by Erlend Skomsvoll on piano, Steinar Raknes on bass, and Håkon Mjåset Johansen on drums.
In 2005, Christopher Porter, edtitor of Jazz Times, wrote: “Møster creates fragile sax melodies that seem to come straight from human speech.”
Speaking of The Core’s distinctive features, Tor Hammerø of TV2 Norway, said: “Modern, uinhibited, acoustic jazz of a very high level of quality. This is free and open music, but the melodious aspect is still intact.”
