Nu-rave Bergen outfit Datarock signs licence and management deal with Nettwerk Music Group.

Bergen’s finest, nu-rave/indie-dance exponents Datarock are poised for new stage in their international career as the band signs with major management/label Nettwerk Music Group.

Writes the band in a statement on their website

“After nearly 7 years with happy-go-lucky DIY culture and all that, Datarock has finally taken everything one step further, and signed a big international record deal. Not only that, but we have made a management deal at the same time. Our own record company YAP has signed a licence deal with Nettwerk Music Group, which means our debut record 'Datarock Datarock' will be re-released in most parts of the world during spring 2007. Through our manager Kevin Kocher, we have also started working with the management branch of Nettwerk Music Group, which is the second largest management group in world. Datarock's second album can be expected in 2008, while we will release a new EP for the Norwegian marked through our own company YAP this spring.”

Originally hailing from the much hyped TellŔ-scene in Bergen, Datarock are a fine example of the willingness to explore and develop integral forms of expression that characterises the bands that have emerged from the capital of Western Norway (think R÷yksopp and Kings of Convenience here). High profiled gigs at the SonÓr Festival in Barcelona and Norway’s biggest festival, Quart as well as frequent touring in the UK with fellow acts Klaxons and Shitdisco, have earned them a reputation as a live act out of the ordinary. Following the SonÓr Festival appearance, Guardian (UK) singled out the act as one of the event’s true highlights.

Datarock’s unique and deft mix of lo-fi pop, casio, disco, hardcore and rock has been featured on several successful international compilations, earning the band a loyal following outside of their native Norway.

Britain’s NME don’t hesitate to call Datarock “Pop music’s most aggressive sect since the Polyphonic Spree. In the linguistic vein of that publication the phrase entails pure praise. And the conclusion reads: “Doubting Datarock is the future of indie dance? You're taking the piss, right?"

Datarock is set to tour the US in mid-March.
