The domestic music market continues to shrink; sales figures for July indicate a massive slump in sales.

The latest sales figures from the Association of Norwegian Record Distributors show that the domestic music market continues to shrink. The July sales figures are down as much as 36% in value compared to 2007. Sales of physical units are down a whopping 40% compared to last year while digital download sales grew with 26% in value.

Sales of singles are down 18% in value while DVD music releases are down 37% in value in July 2008.

So far in 2008, 4,5m physical units have been shifted, resulting in a total turnover of NOK 256m while digital downloads have generated a NOK 30m turnover. Overall, combined physical and digital sales are down 8% in total so far this year.
