Punkt takes the idea of live remixing to a new level, occupying two spaces in Kings Place to create back-to-back concerts for a moving audience. In the live room, across the three days, musicians including Nils Petter Molvær, Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset, Arve Henriksen and Morten Qvenild combine in varying formations to create stunning sonic landscapes. After each set, the audience crosses the foyer to Hall Two to find the original material completely re-invented. Reflective, acoustic sets can mutate into pumped-up electronica, whilst high density, full on performances can become stripped to their bare essentials - sampled, re-mixed and transformed into a completely new entity.
Norwegian Punkt UK lead artists:
Nils Petter Molvær
Nils Petter Molvær, trumpet player, composer and producer, brings togeather multiple music styles - jazz, ambient, house, electronic and break beats, as well as elements from hip hop, rock and pop music - and effortlessly melts them into convincing soundscapes of deep intensity.
Molvær’s interest in both acoustic and electric music is evident in the ease with which he handles the conventions of pop, rock and funk, alongside those of modern jazz. These unique sensibilities soon established him as a much sought after musician in Oslo. After his intermezzo with the Norwegian jazz combo Masqualero, Molvær was introduced to Manfred Eicher, who integrated him into his cast of musicians, doing studio sessions with ECM artists such as Robyn Schulkowsky.
Molvær has released a string of applauded albums as a leader, beginning with 1997’s now classic outing ‘Khmer’ which helped define the whole nu-jazz movement in Norway. Molvær’s latest release is this year’s ‘re-vision’ – a collection of motion picture soundtracks written by the trumpeter/producer/composer.
