The 26th of May sees Ja Ja Ja, the big Nordic music night being hosted at London’s the Lexington. Norwegian outfit ‘Young Dreams’ are set to perform alongside ‘Retro Stefson’ from Iceland and ‘Eleanoora Rosenholm’ from Finland.
Young Dreams have played a few gigs in the UK, and are now ready for the ultimate Nordic party atJa Ja Ja. Every month the mini Nordic festival is held at the Lexington, gathering the best of Nordic music. Young Dreams started out as the name implies. It was just pure dreams from different regular visitors to a bar in Bergen. It all began when one of the guys played his new music at an after party with the other regulars. They realised that their common interest in music could be the foundation for a band. After two weeks in a basement, the dream was a reality and with a few tracks in their pocket they could start to play gigs. With musical references such as Van Dyke Parks, The Beach Boys, Edvard Grieg and Igor Stravinsky the result of their music is a fusing Tropicália, psychedelic rock, classical, symphonic arrangements and traditional pop - music well worth experiencing.
Retro Stefson is a pop band but not by any means a typical one. Retro Stefson’s music has been described in multiple ways, the words surf, Latin, jazz and afro pop up most frequently. The band started out as a school project but has become one of Iceland’s top live acts. At 14, 15 and 16 years old they made their public debut at the 2006 Iceland Airwaves festival. Now, four years later they are ready to enter the musical world of London.
Elanoora Rosenholm is a pop band from the Finnish harbour town of Pori and mixes music with drama. Elanoora Rosenholm is a persona created by the band, which narrates the dramatic and disturbed odyssey of a suburban housewife. The group has now evolved to a seven piece band that takes it musical cues from film soundtracks and disco, laced with echoes of Scandinavian and electronic pop. They say that “this apparent juxtaposition against the album’s subject matter frames a dislocated voice in everyday reality”.
