The Association dèdalo
ensemble announces the fifth
edition of the International
Composition Competition
“… a Camillo Togni”.
The Competition is held every
two years and is open to
musicians of all nationalities,
with no age restrictions. The
competition will be completed
by December 2008 and will
end with a public concert at
which the final scores will be
performed by dèdalo ensemble.
At the end of the concert, the
jury will announce the winning
composition.

The compositions submitted
for the competition must use
the following instruments,
either together or in sectors,
involving a minimum of 3
performers and a maximum of
9, with or without conductor,
wind quartet and string quartet
excluded:
flute (including piccolo, G
alto flute and C bass flute:
single performer); oboe
(including English horn: single
performer); B-flat clarinet
(including A-clarinet, E-flat
piccolo clarinet and B-flat bass
clarinet: single performer);
bassoon; two violins (two
single performers); viola
(single performer); cello
(single performer); piano.
Scores will not be accepted
if they differ even marginally
from the possibilities listed
above. The work must last
between 5 and 12 minutes and
its duration must be indicated
precisely on each score.
Candidates can choose from
two options:
1: Compositions for ensemble
with or without amplification
of the instruments.
2: Compositions for ensembles
with electronics.
Requirements regarding
electronics for option 2:
Only pre-recorded electronic
parts will be accepted. Use
of amplification for the
instruments in the ensemble
is allowed. Live electronic
sources and live treatment of
instruments are not allowed.
Accepted supports for the
recorded parts:
- AUDIO CD 2 channels;
- DTRS tape 44.1-48 kHz/
16 bit type DA-88, max 6
channels;
- ADAT tape 44.1-48 kHz/16
bit, max 6 channels;
- Audio files (AIFF, WAV,
SDII, OMF) max 48 kHz/24
bit, max 6 channels.
Each score submitted must
be accompanied by:
• a short technical and musical
description of the role of the
electronic part
• any indications needed to
perform the electronic part
• two copies of the electronic
part recorded on the chosen
support
• six copies of a stereo version
on audio CD whatever
multichannel support is
chosen.

Competitors must submit 6
anonymous copies of their
composition. They must be
marked using a motto or
pseudonym, and this must
also be written on a sealed
envelope. The sealed envelope
must contain the following
documents:
• a fully compiled registration
form;
• a declaration by the composer
certifying that the composition
presented is unpublished, that
it has never been performed in
public, broadcast and/or awarded
a prize in other competitions,
and that it will not be used in
any way after registration in the
Competition until the results
have been announced;
• an artistic and academic
curriculum (written in Italian
or English);
• a short description of the
work (in Italian or in English);
• permission for RAIRadiotelevisione
Italiana
to record and broadcast the
presented piece in Italy and
abroad;
• a photo bearing the
competitor’s name;
• the receipt confirming
payment of the registration
fee for the competition (nonreimbursable)
amounting to
€ 60.00:
A) made by bank transfer

Each composer can submit
more than one work to the
Competition provided that
a separate registration is
compiled for each entry
(together with the relative
registration fee).

The winners are not allowed to
enter the subsequent editions.

The scores, the registration
application and the enclosed
documents must be sent by
18 June 2008 (certified by
the post office stamp) to the

A representative from the
dèdalo ensemble will attend
but will not be entitled to vote.

The Jury will meet at two
successive stages:
A) to select the scores to be
performed in public;
B) to choose the winning work
after the selected scores have
been performed by the dèdalo
ensemble.

The decisions taken by the
Jury shall be final. The Jury
reserves the right not to award
the prize if no work is deemed
to be worthy. The Jury may
also give special mentions
to one or more works at its
own final judgement. The
Secretariat reserves the right
to replace members of the Jury
who are unable to take part
in the selection process for
reasons outside their control.

The winner will be awarded a
prize of € 5,000.00.
In addition, the winning
work will be published by
the Milan-based publisher
Suvini-Zerboni. If already
under contract to another
publisher, the composer shall
be responsible for obtaining an
exemption from this obligation.
The prize must be collected
in person by the composer, on
penalty of forfeiture.
The RAI – Radiotelevisione
Italiana reserves the right
to record the final evening,
possibly with a view to
broadcasting the concert.

The author must send the
instrumental parts to the
Competition Secretariat within
15 days of the selection being
made. Those concerned will
be informed personally by
e-mail or registered mail,
and the results will also
be reported on the website
www.dedaloensemble.it.

The scores will only be
returned if a special written
request is sent before 31 March
2009 to:

However, a copy will be kept
in the archives of Associazione

The application to take part
in and to present works for
the Competition implies full
acceptance of the present
competition regulations.
In the event of a dispute, the
Italian language version of this
announcement will be legally
binding. The Court of Brescia
will be competent to resolve
any dispute.
