Norwegian Voices - a festival featuring such artists as Terje Rypdal, Mari Boine, Sidsel Endresen, Arve Henriksen, The Brazz Brothers Ketil Bjørnstad, Terje Isungset, Stian Carstensen and Berit Opheim at the Barbican Hall in London
The climax of a year of events that celebrates Norway’s 100th anniversary, Norwegian Voices explores the rich vein of music from this most surprising of countries. Artists taking part include guitarist/composer Terje Rypdal performing with Sami vocalist Mari Boine; singer Sidsel Endresen who has been commissioned to create a new piece for this concert; Supersilent, creators of exploratory electronic sound whose line-up includes the extra-terrestrial voice and trumpet of Arve Henriksen. The Brazz Brothers will also lead an education project linked to Norwegian Voices. Ketil Bjornstad, composer, pianist, lyricist and author, plays here as leader of a new quartet including British saxophonist Andy Sheppard. Other artists expected to participate include percussionist Terje Isungset, whose music incorporates elemental materials derived from the Norwegian landscape; the witty duet of accordionist Stian Carstensen and British saxophonist Iain Ballamy; and the soaring voice of Berit Opheim. London-based film-makers Yeast provide a specially commissioned visual backdrop. Time:Location:
