Førde Folk music Festival is the biggest festival for folk/trad/world music in Scandinavia, presenting 80 acts and 250 artists from all over the world for about 30 000 visitors each year. The festival's profile is mainly accoustic/traditional music and dance. Førde is a small town situated in beautiful surroundings in the fjord region on the western coast of Norway, about 150 km north of Bergen. Women's World is the focus of the 2011 edition of the Førde Folk Music Festival. Led by artists like Oumou Sangaré from Mali, Esma Redzepova from Macedonia and Susana Baca from Peru, the festival presents strong female artists, who in addition to their international careers, also have engaged themselves in politics or social and humanitarian issues. However, the line-up does also include some men, of course..
