Bandrom

The Bandrom project is a combination of many pieces, creating a concert-happening with a polyphony of independent musical objects, characters or situations. It can last from one night up to several days. Each realization has a new set-up, relating to the given place and context, often creating a combination of very different concert situations.

Some main elements are always present: Musicians learning compositions by ear. Process-based pieces played simultanously with shorter, more concentrated pieces. The independent pieces are placed/played in different rooms, creating a larger spatial composition. Translations of visual elements into sound. (projection of pictures with a small musical comment or translation)

Bandrom is playing with the concept of tradition. Each realization makes new versions of existing works. By letting one musician teach a composition to a group of other musicians,
and letting them influence the piece with their way of playing and interpreting it. The result is not only a heterophonic melody, but also the sound of the learning process.

Pieces that are part of the Bandrom cycle: Krull quest, A lecture about ornaments, the Stacks, Tune Park, Nikos Kjellar, (1 min) for bassclarinet, percussion and tape. Shamanobil: for percussionist in driving car, with tape played on car stereo, Bmw-komposisjon, elektronic music for car stereo. ”Område-melodi” , for violin solo, to be taught forward to a group of other string players.

Street music various small compositions for guitar and bass.
