Rolf-Erik Nystrøm

One of the internationally leading saxophonists in contemporary music, improvisation and in the ability of understanding and performing different styles and genres, but still with a specific personal style. Has developed several new playing technics on the saxophone. Released his first soloalbum "Concepts of Sorrows & Dangers" at the Aurora label in 2006. Has been soloist with the main symphony orchestras i Norway and with a number of prominent European orchestras and ensembles. Received the Young People's Lindeman Price 2005, Artist grant from the state 2005-06 & 2010-12, the Rikskonsertene Debut Price 2001. Has given recitals in 40 countries on 4 continents. Has composed music for music theatre, documentaries, and chamber music. Has premiered more than 100 works for saxophone by other composers, most of them dedicated to him. Masterdegree in saxophone from the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Studies w/ John Edward Kelly. Gives lectures in contemporary music at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Participated on more than 70 albums, and works also as a producer on other artists' records. He also regularly performs west-African, falak, improvised, jazz, funk and early baroque music.
