Tora Augestad is a singer, conductor and actress. Her focus is jazz, music theatre and cabaret. Education from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. She has studied classical and jazz song with Torsten Föllinger and Ståle Ytterli. She was a member of the Norwegian Soloists Choir 2000-2005 and the vocal group Pitsj 1999-2006. She is vocalist in the ensemble Music for a while, that released the CD Weill Variations (Grappa 2007). She has participated in cabarets, operas and theatre productions at various stages in Norway. Since 2007 she lives in Berlin, and she works with some of Europe's finest contemporary music ensembles, such as Ensemble Modern and Klangforum Wien. She has worked with the Swiss star director Christoph Marthaler, ans has appeared in his productions with the opera in Basel: soloist in Wüstenbuch (Beat Furrer), Meine faire Dame - ein Sprachlabor, and Lo Stimolatore Cardiaco. In 2012 Augestad has her debut with the opera in Zürich in a new production by Christoph Marthaler, together with a.o. Anne Sofie von Otter.
