Lars Notto Birkeland
Organist
Born in Oslo 1969. Eduction for the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he studied organ with Harald Herresthal, piano with Hanna-Marie Weydahl, Sigmund Hjelset and Lars Haugbro, and harpsichord with Ketil Haugsand. He has later studied organ with Kåre Nordstoga in Oslo and Guy Bovet in Switzerland, and participatd in master classes with Marie-Claire Alain, Jon Laukvik, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Lionel Rogg a.o.
Birkeland h\made his debut as an organist in Oslo Cathedral in 1998 and has been active as a concert organist sinces then. He has bee soloist with oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in Poulenc Organ COncerto and Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony, in addition to other Norwegian and Swedish orchestras. He has given recitals at festivals like Bergen International festival and Oslo International Church Music Festival. Birkeland received the Norwegian State Grant for artists in the period 2006-2008, a.o. to study the music of Jehan Alain.
