Tone Åse

Working with both electronic sound processing and acoustic sound, Tone Åse continuously explores new possibilities as improvising vocalist. She interacts with her fellow musicians both in the traditional sense of being a singer, but also as a soundscaper, stretching the instrumental capabilities of the voice in the improvised interplay. Her way of working has developed gradually, starting off experimenting with the voice itself in the improvising a cappella group Kvitretten (w/Eldbjørg Raknes, Kristin Asbjørnsen and Solveig Slettahjell, who were breaking new ground for a cappella music in Norway and elsewhere in the 90’s). Most of all Tone Åse has developed her work with electronic soundscaping through her long time collaboration in her own trio BOL with keyboard player Ståle Storløkken and drummer Tor Haugerud. In this trio she also contributes with her own compositions. Later on, being part of the early Live Maria Roggen Band and today the singer in Marilyn Mazur’s Future Song, she has explored and developed further her own way of working within different improvisational settings, with different, wonderful musicians. She has, as part of her project as a research fellow in THE NATIONAL NORWEGIAN ARTISTIC RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAMME, started several new collaborations such as ÅSE/STRØNEN DUO with Thomas Strønen,Duo with Michael F. Duch and UNDERCOVER with Per Oddvar Johansen and Krister Jonsson (S), among others. Continuing her work with the exploration of the acoustic voice, Tone Åse has since 2001 been participating in, and 2006-2011 the musical leader of, the improvising vocal ensemble Trondheim Voices. She has since 1994 released several CDs with the groups Kvitretten and BOL, besides participating on other CD productions... Latest releases: "Voxpheria" with Thomas Strønen ( Gigafon 2012) and "Numb, number" with BOL/WESTERHUS/SNAH ( GIGAFON 2012)
